What We Do
At Agape House,
we focus on living, offering patients unconditional, palliative
care, making those who are terminally ill very comfortable – physically,
emotionally and spiritually – for as long as there is
life.
What is Palliative Care?
You may have heard of the medical term – palliative
care (pronounced PAH-LEE-UH-TIVE). To palliate means to make
comfortable by treating the symptoms of an illness. Hospice
and palliative care both focus on helping a person be comfortable
by addressing issues causing physical or emotional pain or
suffering. Hospice and other palliative care providers work
with teams of people to offer treatment. The goals of palliative
care include improving the quality of a seriously ill person’s
life and supporting the patient and his or her family during
and after treatment. Hospice palliative care focuses on
relieving symptoms and supporting patients with a life expectancy
of months not years. Support is also offered to family members. The
team at Agape House is comprised of doctors, nurses, a social
worker, chaplains, nursing auxiliary staff and volunteers. |
